11Y - revision

Hi gents, In today's lesson you were all given a Cheney Takeaway menu that will direct you to revision material on YouTube. Think about what areas you feel you need to work on and direct your revision in that direction. On Friday: we will be doing a Paper 1, Section A exam conditions test - implementing the Reading Non-Fiction skills we've been looking at in the last few lessons:

  • following an argument

  • differentiating fact and opinion

  • commenting on linguistic devices

  • commenting on presentational devices

  • comparing and cross-reference

11X - Media Studies Evaluation

Hi guys,

Remember, on Friday you will be finishing off the Evaluation section for your Media Studies practical coursework.

Come to the lesson prepared and ready to evaluate how effectively your product:
  1. met its aims and purpose
  2. used appropriate generic conventions
  3. used representations
  4. used narrative
  5. addressed the chosen or preferred audience(s) and/or user(s)
  6. revealed media organisational issues

  1. Finish annotating your copies of 'Homecoming' - use BBC Bitesize and any other websites you find that are useful. Remember the Success Criteria for analysing poems

11Y - Timed essay

Hi gents,

Don't forget, on Friday you will be writing an exam conditions essay:

(a) Compare how female speakers are presented in ‘Havisham’ by Carol Ann Duffy and one
poem from the Pre-1914 Poetry Bank.

and then

(b) Compare how male speakers are presented in ‘Sonnet 130’ by William Shakespeare and one poem by Simon Armitage.

Come prepared as you will be starting the essay as soon as you walk in the room.

11Y - Homework for 'Mother, any distance'

Gents,
Some work I want you to do for tomorrow's lesson on 'Mother, any distance'. We will then look at an exam conditions essay that you will write in Friday's lesson.

1. Think of 2 ways in which holding the tape measure conveys something about the relationship between mother and son.
2. Lines 11 and 15 are very short and so they have an extra impact on the reader. Why - what is the impact?
3. The poem is in 3 stanzas. Copy and complete the chart showing how the 3 stanzas deal with different ideas:
