11Y - Homework - 11.2.11

Hi boys,

Over the weekend, you need to finish your plan to the essay you are going to write UNDER EXAM CONDITIONS on Monday morning:

Compare the ways that poets present violence in ‘Hitcher’, ‘My Last Duchess’, and two other poems from the Literature Anthology.

MAKE SURE YOU BRING THIS PLAN AND YOUR ANTHOLOGY WITH YOU ON MONDAY.

Have a nice half-term,
Mr Kirkaldy

11X - Media Studies coursework

Hi guys,

By now you should have all finished the 'Planning' sections for your Media Studies coursework. This should include:

  • Statement of intent
  • Mood board
  • 2/3 drafts with questionnaire
  • Detailed final draft

You now have to complete your actual productions. This means making a FRONT COVER and a CONTENTS PAGE to a professional standard. Look back in your notes to check that your production uses all the CONVENTIONS of a magazine front cover and contents page and that you use the CODES appropriate to your TARGET AUDIENCE.

If you have photos saved you can get them on the shared area: W:\Media Studies\10X2 - Mr Kirkaldy

You have this week to complete your work - I will be in on FRIDAY to collect it.

Have a great half-term,
Mr Kirkaldy

11X - Media work

Hi guys,

In the next couple of weeks we need to finish off the planning side of our magazine front cover/contents page project and move onto the production stage.

In your planning section you need:
  • 2/3 rough drafts of different 'treatments' you could use for your magazine
  • some market research into which treatment is the most effective (ie create a questionnaire and ask your target audience which treatment the like best). You can record your results as a table, pie chart, etc
  • once you've decided what your final design is going to look like, you need to to a detailed plan of what it will look like. This will include what text you're going to use (coverlines, straplines, etc). You will also need to know what is going to go into your magazine so that you can do your contents page

The more of this work you can do at home and come to lessons fully prepared, the better.

Mr Kirkaldy

PS. I am still missing a few research sections. I must have that asap so that I can mark them, so if I haven't got yours (Patrick, Mohammed, Rob, Zoe, Adam), please get them to me asap. Otherwise you will be staying for the after-school coursework catch-up session on Wednesday.

11Y5 - Poetry work

Hi boys,

In our next lesson (Fri 28th) we will be finishing off 'Stealing' by Carol Ann Duffy.

We will then move on to look at two other poems that deal with the criminal mind: 'My Last Duchess' by Robert Browning and 'Havisham' by Carol Ann Duffy.

Over the weekend, I want you to look up these poems on the internet, gain an understanding of what they are about, and then come to the lesson with ideas about how they are similar/different to 'Stealing' and 'Hitcher'.

Mr Kirkaldy
